Buffalo Bayou: River of Life

A benefit sale of photographs and artwork old and new focused on Houston’s Buffalo Bayou, the main river flowing through the center of the city.

Your tax-deductible purchase supports Save Buffalo Bayou and Friends of Don Greene.

Houston photographer, author, and Rice University professor Geoff Winningham gathered an astonishing variety of perspectives on Buffalo Bayou for a benefit exhibition and sale. The recent show, which drew enthusiastic crowds and publicity (see also here), ended Nov. 28.

But now you can easily purchase online work by anonymous 19th century artists and well-known contemporary artists and photographers that was included in the show. Many of the photographs are drawn from Winningham’s acclaimed book, Along Forgotten River, an exploration of Buffalo Bayou from the ship channel to its source in the Katy Prairie. Also included are the imaginative drawings and photographs of young Houston schoolchildren who participated in Winningham’s teaching project that resulted in the 2017 publication, In the Eyes of Our Children: Houston, An American City. Work by photographers George O. Jackson and Jim Olive, as well as artist Janice Freeman, is also for sale.

Here is a link to the original catalogue for the show with more description.
